Today is my day off from work. It’s currently a chilly thirteen degrees, but the sun’s rays are beaming at me through the window that I’m currently staring at from behind my kitchen sink.
Oh, and there’s a windstorm warning that just hit my newsfeed.
As I stare out the window, I debate a very important decision: Should I go out and just do something – maybe have a meal at a restaurant followed by a walk in the park? Or should I stay home, brew a cup of tea and settle myself in a corner with a book?
I’m sure many of you can sympathize with a workaholic like me. I spend almost every day working – either at my job, or on my own business or side gigs – that on a day when I do decide to relax, I have no idea what to do. It’s like the moment I sit down, I feel that I’m wasting time and my whole body itches to do something important.
Yes, having this always-on-the-go mindset is important; no, it is essential if you possess the spirit of an entrepreneur. But, like everything in life, there’s a yin and a yang. In this case, the yang would be giving yourself some downtime where you do not touch work.
It’s important if you don’t want the quality of your work to suffer. The workload will always be there and the way you conquer is by ensuring that your quality of work remains the same or even higher everyday. So, ensure you have time to relax on your days off. Take a bath, read a book, take a walk in the park or draft one of your unlucky friends to a coffee date so that you have someone to talk to.
Practice the art of self-care.
It’s important, and don’t get me wrong, I’m no expert at it myself. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to this aspect. How do I know? Well, you see, as I was debating on what to do today, I opened up my laptop and wrote this blog post.
Blast it. I’m switching off now.

I love grabbing my boyfriend and heading off for a food date or if, we have the time, heading on the train to explore a brand new city! We visited Newcastle next week and had the best time!
That’s awesome. I’ve never been to England. Aiming to change this down the road 🙂
This is most definitely some food for thought! I always feel pressure to do something on my days off – mainly housework and chores – otherwise I feel as though it’s been a waste of a day, however I’m working hard to try and take more days where I read or journal or just sit and watch Netflix!
Netflix is good! I actually have to struggle to get myself to “focus” on the show I’m playing or else my mind just keeps wandering off to work. Oh well, baby steps :/
