Don’t take joy for granted, seek it out

Essential!   To identify them, seek them out, and fully enjoy them.  It is imperative to remember the value happiness and these extra sparks of joy can bring to our lives.

Many of us know what brings happiness to our lives.   It may be time with family and friends, enjoying a new book, or cuddling with a beloved pet.  These moments are priceless and essential to have in our every day life.

Beyond that are what I call sparkles of joy.  These are moments beyond happiness that get our heart racing.  They bring an instant smile to our face.  They make us simply glow with pleasure.

The above likely does that for some already (yea!!).  For others of us it takes a bit more to get to the “spark” stage.  For me, it’s the unexpected moments that create that spark.   The moments that I’ve worked hard for that come to fruition either directly or indirectly in ways that I never expected.  Or, a special nomination, a job opportunity I didn’t see coming, etc…

It’s also the unexpected kind words from those that mean the most to me that bring an extra spark to my day.   For example, an out-of-the-blue compliment from a significant other.  A thank you from a friend for just being me. Or, even something as simple as a stranger doing a small kind act for me or even just in front of me.

I think that those of us that have found ways to be happy in life are lucky, as not everyone has.  Luckier yet are those that not only find happiness but also find sparks of joy throughout our days.   I do also think that luck isn’t all there is to it – there is a lot we can do to create our destinies, our luck, or whatever you prefer to call it. We can stack the decks in our favor, we can build that solid foundation, and we can keep pushing the envelope.

Sometimes it’s easy to take these moments for granted.  These are the moments to be cherished and remembered though.  Happiness is a wonderful emotion.  One not to be taken lightly.  Let’s make sure we make the most of such moments and hope more of us can enjoy them as often as possible.  Those sparks are just that special.

  1. I totally agree, little things like a cuddle with my dog bring everyday happiness but it’s the unexpected things that spark joy as you’ve described here x

  7. My husband and I recognized last year that camping and hiking with our dogs brought us more sparks of joy than nearly anything else in our lives. We decided to embrace and run with that this year, planning nearly twice as many trips in 2020. If it brings you joy, why not?

Thank you Heidi – you made my day with your compliments! Thank you for stopping by!

  10. I have to be careful with sparks of joy, because each spark means I crash back into depression. It’s easier to be consistently at the same level, then having sparks of joys causing an up, because the crash it harder, and then you have to wait to it all levels out again

You make a really good point Unwanted life – the highs aren’t for everyone. Sometimes people thrive best at an even keel pace! Each to their own – everyone knows what is best for themselves. Thanks for sharing your insights! Always appreciated!
