Just like a snowflake there are no two people alike. There’s a unique beauty in that and knowing that no matter what, there is no one that can contribute, influence, or live their life quite like we each can.
Life is full of various types of stress and that stress can often drain our energy or get us feeling down. In these moments, perhaps most of all during these moments, it’s important to remember what it is that makes us unique and who we are. We should feel free to give ourselves a mental boost with these reminders when we need one. Self-care is the most important thing that we can do for ourselves and taking care of our mental state of mind is one of the best places to start.
Oftentimes we see people and we wish we were more like them in a certain way.
While we are all unique, sometimes we can find ourselves in the position of wishing we had something, some skill, talent, or characteristic that someone else has. Is this okay?
This is a completely natural feeling to have – everyone has traits and talents that we wish we had or had more of. In its healthiest form, it’s simply admiration of something that is standing out in a particular person.
Oftentimes we can use this admiration as motivation to enhance or grow our own skills or talents in that area. Whether by asking that person for assistance, pursuing it through our own resources, or learning through practice, leveraging admiration of the skill of another can be a great incentive for self-growth.
Admittedly, sometimes it can be hard not to feel jealous or envious of another, but we should never let someone else’s skills or talents get us down or make us feel less than. If it doesn’t happen to be something within our reach, we are still lucky to have found someone with such a talent within our circle. If we were all the same, we would be missing out on so much. Let’s instead embrace our diversity from one another and let it supplement our lives rather than drag us down. And here’s a great reason why:
It’s just as important to remember that just as we are admiring the skills of someone else, there very likely is at least a handful of people doing the same of us.
Whether they are admiring our organizational skills, vibrant energy, academic talent, or work success, just as many people are admiring the uniqueness that we bring to our environment. Only we can be our unique, authentic selves and that is something precious that we don’t want to give up. While it’s wonderful to grow new skills and discover new talents, the core of who we are is precious. Like a snowflake.. For no one, try as they might, can be us. Just as, try as we might, we can’t anyone one else. That is exactly why each of us so special!
And talking about special, have I got some special deals for you here! Who can’t use a great deal today, tomorrow or the next day?!

Great post! I think it’s very important to acknowledge that we do compare ourselves with others and that is also ok. It’s a part of being human.
Thank you! Exactly – all of this is human nature.
Everyone is different in regards to looks, mentality etc. Yet we so often find ourselves getting stuck within the comparison game. Me included. I struggle greatly with this and compare myself to the other women my age with great sadness. It doesn’t help my mental health one bit.
A good thought-provoking piece of writing!
Thank you so much Chloe! I too have fallen into that trap – it’s hard not to. Being conscious of it definitely helps though.
Thank you so much Chloe – I’m glad you enjoyed the article! I too find myself comparing myself – then scolding myself for it!
Wise words as always! We all need to start loving ourselves a bit more and loving our differences.
Thank you – wise words right back at you. This world would be even more amazing (and easier!) if we all cut ourselves some slack more often. 🙂
I love this! I love the part about how our energy can get drained by outer influences and how we should constantly take care of ourselves. It’s a great reminder! Thank you

Such an insightful post Lida. Comparing ourselves to others is wrong for many reasons.
Also, we should not forget that succesful people have worked & tried a lot to reach success, so it’s better to take them as a good example rather than feeling envy for them!
All to true! Thanks for sharing your insights Chris!
Yes!! Its so easy to see others’ talents, gifts, etc. that God has blessed them with, and neglect to be using mine! But, we are still all special, and we all have a purpose. Thanks for the post! ????
Thank you Katie – great comments!
It’s so lovely to hear the word ‘snowflake’ in a positive light – just like how it used to be presented. In today’s society it’s too often used as a negative connotation so it’s great to be reminded that snowflakes are beautiful to!
Thank you Aimee – I’m glad you enjoyed the article! Have a great week!
I love this! Just like a snowflake everybody is unique, and it is our differences that make us special! We shouldn’t compare ourselves to others and look for the positive things about ourselves x
Exactly! Thank you for sharing your insights Chloe!
