If you live in the centre of Newcastle, Cake Stories is only two minute metro ride away. It is a lovely small and cosy cafe that sells a large variety of food: bagels, soups, sharing plates and cakes, along with hot and cold drinks. My friends and I had the smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado bagel and the Camembert sharer, which were all lovely, as were the iced teas. The selection of cakes were also amazing, from red velvet to elderflower gin and tonic; they also included gluten free options. They also box any cakes up for you to take home if you can’t decide between a few choices, which you inevitably won’t be able to.

The Great British Cupcakery is truly a hidden gem in Newcastle. It’s the perfect pit stop on the way to the Quayside, tucked down a side street by the Tyne Bridge. It is the most beautifully decorated place in the Toon, with flower walls and cherry blossom. It is perfect for your next Instagram photo. If you love any sort of sweet treat treat, this place is for you. They serve a variety of cakes and sweet snacks; however, their cupcakes are truly to die for, especially the malteaser ones. They also serve sandwiches as well as tea and coffee and you can even book afternoon teas. The staff are particularly lovely and accommodating. Overall, it’s a great place to spend an hour or so.
