The blind chef, Christine Ha inspired a nation when she competed in the third series of Master Chef America. Christine won seven times in both individual and team challenges; additionally, she placed three times in the top three groups. Christine was announced the winner of the competition and was awarded $250,000, the MasterChef title, the MasterChef trophy, and a cookbook deal.
Christine suffers from neuromyelitis optica, in which a person’s own immune system attacks the optic nerves and spinal cord. In 2004, she was diagnosed and gradually started losing her vision, and was almost completely blind by 2007. During this time Christine taught herself to cook, overcoming the daily challenges her sight presented.
Christine competed in Master Chef America with the same position as over contestants, never using her disability as an excuse. Showing that by practising, learning and overcoming challenges, Christine was able to compete and win Master Chef Amercia.
Christine has her own blog called The Blind Cook and has become the third judge on Master Chef Vietnam.
