Every family seems to have their own traditions and feelings about the holidays. I think most enjoy the festivities and the joyful spirit that fills the air. It’s something new and exciting to look forward to every year.
I thought I would share what the holidays means to me. I hope you will do the same and share what it means to you!
Family and Friends
I love the extra time that I get to spend with my family and friends. This time is priceless to me! It’s not only time to spend with them but also to create new experiences with them. Whether it’s a day of baking together, cruising the stores for holiday deals, or sharing holiday plans with each other, I love all of it!
Traditions
Every family seems to have them and they are part of what makes the holidays so special. There is something special about these holiday traditions. It can be as little as Secret Santa gift giving to annual gatherings at a meaningful location. Whatever it is, the nostalgia that comes with following these traditions year after year is priceless. I really enjoy the traditions my family has, though many of them will be altered this year because of the pandemic (perhaps a time to get creative and start some new ones!)
Presents
I simply love buying presents for my family and friends. I’m not one of those shoppers that shop from the list they have given me. I’m one of those people that take what I’ve learned about a person throughout the year and buy something that I know they wouldn’t splurge on for themselves but that they really want. Perhaps a massage, favorite expensive cologne, or new electronic gadget. Whatever it is that they won’t expect but will love to get!
Of course, I also love to receive thoughtful gifts as well. While I get more excited about giving then receiving, it always touches my heart when a friend or family member has nailed what gift would mean the most to me.
The Joyful Spirit
It seems to me that the holidays bring out the joyfulness in people and goodness knows we can use an extra dose of that this year! People seem in lighter moods, tensions are lifted, vacation time is taken, laughter is in the air… It all combines to make for a happier, lighter December!
I’d Love to Hear About Your Holidays!
What do the holidays mean to you? Do you and your family have certain traditions?

I love spending the holidays with my family. Growing up, we always would open up one present each on Christmas Eve. We were always excited about that. On Christmas Day, we would watch a holiday movie. Usually, the Grinch.
Oh – those sounds like lovely traditions!
Visiting the grandparents house during the holidays is one thing every kid loves. Isn’t it? We love the same during the holidays.
Yes, that has always been a favorite of mine!
I am French Canadian, so we celebrate what is called Reveillon (which translates to waking). We go to midnight mass then have our BIG Christmas meal and open presents, celebrating until the wee hours of the morning. Now that we are all getting older, we tend to go to an earlier mass, and celebrate earlier, but the magic is still there 🙂
I am bummed that I will not be able to celebrate with family due to Covid this year, but we will be embracing my SO’s tradition of seafood on Christmas Eve, as he is Italian.
That sounds like a wonderful exciting Christmas – It will be wonderful to resume it next year!
I love the holidays too! This has always been a special season for my family, and the joy and happiness is so infectious this time of the year.
Our tradition is one where we get up early, start a fire, open presents, and have a special breakfast.. Thank you for sharing and Merry Christmas!
Oh… starting a fire.. how cozy for this festive day!
I love learning about other people’s Christmas traditions! It’s such a beautiful time of year to just make some amazing memories and spend time with your family!
It sure is, isn’t it! I love learning about other people’s traditions too – I might pick up a few of them. THey all sound so lovely!
We love the same things about the holidays. I am so happy the holidays are here.
I am too – we all could use a little festivity right now
Spending time with family at Christmas is my favourite thing, having everyone all together eating good food and laughing is the best!
I love that all too Kelly – such good times!
I love the holidays too and this year will be different for all of us. Perhaps the true meaning of the holidays will shine through.
That would be a wonderful win, wouldn’t it? 🙂
This is such a lovely post! I too love buying presents for loved ones, i wish I had unlimited money so I could really spoil them!

Definitely spending time with family – although this year not so many friends, unfortunately, thanks to lockdown restrictions!

That spells out such a wonderful Christmas! Happy holidays to you!
Oh, what wonderful tradition you have. They sound lovely. We would always open 1 gift on Christmas eve and watch a holiday movie with hot cocoa. On Christmas day we would have all the family, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, and so on for dinner. That was always my favorite time. Have a blessed day~
That sounds lovely Tammy! I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

Happy holidays to you too Payal!
This is a lovely post. I love have happy everyone tends to be and how friendly towards others they are during the holidays.
I do too – I wish things were that way all year round!
I usually hate buying presents. Simply because I never know what to get anyone but I love your idea of how to buy someone a gift. It’s inspired me to do better next year.
