2020 was a strange year that I think no one could have predicted. Lockdowns, social distancing, face masks, and working from home, last year has changed how we live our lives.
We are resilient. The world changed around us in a period of a few weeks, so we changed the way we work and interact with the world. We helped our friends, family, neighbours and strangers, making sure they were safe and provided essential items.
We are supportive. We showed incredible support for staff that continued to work during the lockdown, from NHS workers, delivery drivers, supermarket staff and all the key workers helping us during this troubled time.
We are adaptable. We changed the way we learn, work and communicate with each other from a physical place to different digital platforms. We found new solutions to problems and challenges to achieve our goals.
While we have changed the way we live, things are not the same. I think what I miss the most is simple physical contact such as a hug from family and friends. Life doesn’t seem the same, while I still work, visit friends, and enjoy a nice walk with my dog, there is loneliness. The atmosphere in the world has changed and it seems sad. I think we no longer reach out and tell people we are struggling, or that we are finding it hard. It took me a while to realise I was struggling, I wasn’t unhappy, or depressed. I was just numb to everything around me, and I just knew I wasn’t Ok. It was when I finally spoke to my partner that I broke down and I realised I felt alone and tired. The realisation helped so much, as we had both been feeling the same but never realised.
We must remember we are resilient, we are supportive, and we are adaptable. We need to continue doing everything we did at the beginning of the year, helping each other, knowing that we are stronger in this together. It is ok not to be ok, and we can reach out for help from one another.
We should use 2020 as a lesson for 2021 to create a better and supportive community in the world, showing what we can achieve when we work together.

Completely agree with this post! There are so many things that we have been able to learn this year!

2020 has definitely taught me how to adapt to rapid changes. It’s almost scary when thinking about how quickly things changed this year. To the point when I don’t remember what it feels like to just go to a restaurant and eat normally. Pre-mask days. I am so over this pandemic and hope we don’t have to adapt to these changes forever.
I refused to accept this as the new normal.

This year has definitely brought upon us a lot of changes and life lessons. I totally relate to your post! – papermintbooks.com
What a great post! You are so right, we are stronger than we think and we can all band together for a common cause! Wonderful post x
I have learned so much from this year. Even though times have been difficult I can say that this pandemic has shown so many of us that we must help each other and support each other. It has brought out a lot of good in most people.
