As we are quickly approaching the holidays, thoughts are slowly turning to the holidays and what quarantine means for them. For most of us it will mean our large family gatherings will have to go by the wayside this year. Something that many of us look forward to on an annual basis.
So, how will we cope? What should we anticipate? I think that needless to say it will add a new, or enhanced, challenge to this whole quarantine business. Some of us may end up alone for the holidays or just with our house mates. One thing for sure, it most likely will not be the same.
Planning for Happy Holidays
While we still have plenty of time before the holidays set in, I think it’s worth taking some time now to think about the reality of what the holidays will be like. Are we are going to be alone? Or without many of our loved ones? Perhaps creating a plan now to reduce the challenges is warranted.
While nothing will replace the hugs from Grandma, your mother’s loving touch, or your father’s looks of pride, there are some things that you can do to help prepare yourself for the holidays.
For example, plan group face time calls with each other to celebrate part of the day with each other. Send each other care package so that you can enjoy similar things together on the special days. Reach out and plan calls with those loved ones in your extended family so that you still feel the connection with all.
Self-Care
Also, I think it would be prudent to plan for a bit of challenging feelings during the holidays. They tend to bring out more emotions as it is, but this year is likely to be a doozy for feelings. Planning a selfcare package that will lift our spirits when the mood hits might be a great idea.
This could mean coordinating small gifts to be delivered to our house from your favorite stores. Or, it could mean putting together a box ahead of time to use as our feel good go to box. Whatever it is, lets make sure that we have a plan for taking care of ourselves. Let’s face it, these are surreal times. Extra pampering is needed by us all to get through them in the best possible way. Take some time to celebrate yourself!
What are your Holiday Plans?
Are you going to be able to enjoy it with a few loved ones or will you be isolated from your family? What plans have you made to not only get through the holidays but enjoy them?

This is so true and something I was just talking about with my coworkers this morning. Holidays are going to look very different this year, but the joy is in what we make them. We will have new traditions and try to celebrate family and our health in other ways. Thank you for sharing!
I love your positive outlook on it all Sarah! Happy holidays!
People have started decorating for the holidays and I think that is so we can get in a better mind frame. I hope to just share it with my family and hope that the new year brings many changes and better days.
Me too Elaine! Me too!
I also feel that self-care will be important during these holidays. Thanks for sharing this post!
You are welcome Alyssa. Happy holidays!
Lisa agree it will be different this year – love your positive ideas and the extra pampering!
Thank you Sylvia! Happy holidays!
Was just starting to plan this the other day!
It’s going to be different that’s for sure, but still, it needs to celebrated??
It definitely needs to be celebrated. 🙂
The holidays won’t change much for me but I imagine they’ll be very different for a lot of people this year.
Yes, I think many people unfortunately will struggle this holiday season 🙁
Great post! Usually, we travel during the holidays so this is very different for us. Thankfully, our family is within “our bubble” of people and we have a small family so we’ll still be able to see them. We just try and keep distance and not give any hugs! Hope everyone can still have a nice end to the year despite everything 🙂
Wishing you the merriest of holidays!
I love your Planning for Happy Holidays section! it’s so important that we get honest with ourselves about what Christmas might look like so that we can minimise disappointment and work with what we have this year, even with all the restrictions that might still be in place.
I completely agree – setting expectations early will really help manage that
We’re not making any plans just yet until we know what the official restrictions are for that period but I’m kind of looking forward to a potentially quiet one x
Sophie
A quiet cozy one might be kind of nice and help stretch out the holidays into a very relaxing one.
Great post! I agree that it is a good idea to start planning for the holiday season now. It is going to look very different this year and planning ahead will definitely take away some of the stress. Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome Tiffany – hopefully some planning will make for smoother, happier holidays this year 🙂
It is important to still celebrate definitely. Self care is very important. Life is precious and moments are too. Thank you for sharing.

You are welcome Lauren – happy holidays to you!
Great post! Enjoyed reading this! Christmas will be different this year for a lot of people but we should definitely still celebrate it!
I agree – celebrate it as much as we can. 🙂
I’m going to try my best to enjoy the festive season as much as I can, but keep within the rules. It’ll be different this year, but I’m hoping to still enjoy it as much as possible!
Wishing you a very happy holiday season Alex!
