The Pandemic: A Time for Self-Reflection

Lets face it, we all have a lot more time on our hands and many of us are running out of things to do with it.  We’ve read, we’ve blogged, we’ve binged, we’ve completed puzzles.  What now…

With the busy lives we all lead, it’s a treat, almost a treasure, to take some time to self-reflect.  Yet this time can be some of the best time spent in our lives.   Where have we been?  What have we accomplished?  Where are we now?  Where are we going?   What lies ahead?

What have we accomplished?

I know that many say that the past is the past, keep it there, but when it comes to self-reflection I think it can be healthy to look in the rear view mirror for a moment and take a peek back at our accomplishments.

Often they fly by us so quickly that we don’t get the chance to celebrate them and realize their impact on our lives.   First, celebrate them we must!  And second, it’s important to call out our successes for a variety of reasons.  They can be confidence-builders, they can remind us of our talents, and they can help us get through the next hurdles in life.

Now that we have some time, let’s take it to congratulate ourselves on how far we’ve come and recognize and celebrate ourselves for our newfound talents and successes!

Where are we now?

It’s always important to know the space you are occupying now to ensure that it’s the right space for you.  Does it lead to your goals or is it leading away from them?  If you find the answer to these questions is that it is not leading to your goals, perhaps it’s time to move on from this space, especially if you identify it to be a not-so-healthy space.

If it’s a healthy space, maybe you are due for a “pause” before jumping into the next big thing.  Self-care and rest can be essential to tomorrow’s breakthroughs!  We need to be ready to be fully inspired and experience our own innovative qualities at their finest.  When we are ready, we can leap to where we are going.  Or perhaps we have identified that we are ready to leap now! Exciting!

Where are we going?

This can be a tough one and require some extra introspection if we don’t already have our goals laid out.   Once we know though, and are ready to leap, it can be an exciting adventure.  It can lead to new discoveries, talents and experiences.  They key is leaping when we are ready and making sure we are leaping in the right direction.

How do you know what the right direction is?  Well, we don’t always know.  Many of us leap in the wrong direction, only to have to self-correct (but there can be lesson in that even!).  In reality though generally it takes some self-reflection of where we’ve have been, where we are now, and what we are ready for next, based on our end game to figure this out.

The Pandemic and Time

If there’s one thing this pandemic has given us is time.  Time to self-reflect and figure all of this out. It’s not always “fun” sitting down and plotting this all out, but it can be!  Best of all, the results can be exhilarating!   So, if you haven’t yet, and are looking for a new pandemic activity, I encourage you to self-reflect so you are ready for that next big leap, whether it’s able to be done now or when this is all over.  For you are amazing and amazing things lie ahead!   Are you ready for it?

How has your self-reflection gone?

Have you taken the time for self-reflection during this pandemic?  How has it gone?  Any new revelations?   Do you feel ready to leap or are you happy in your current place right now?

  1. I’ve been refocusing my mind on certain things, like better self care and more physical activity. I really wasn’t as happy as I could be with the way life was, so I’m using this time to try to make it better.

It sounds like you are spot on with your goals Adam! Impressive!

  2. This is the best time for some self-reflection. Those questions are great to ask and answer. We need to know where our values are at. At the same time, if we identify any gaps, this is the chance to take steps to remediate them. Thanks for sharing this insight!

  4. You’re so true, we should be using this time to slow down and really think about where we are headed. (and where we have been, all of our accomplishments deserve celebrating no matter how big or small)

It sounds like you are in a great place Rebiah! Congratulations on your successful journey!

  10. I think a lot of us have been able to take time out and refocus on what’s important to us as opposed to what we think is important. One silver lining at least! 🙂 Lisa

  11. Lisa Alioto

    I agree – a definite silver lining 🙂

  12. I hope there are a lot of people who are really using their time with a sense!
I know too many persons going crazy at this time but why? I see so many possibilities and chances. Let’s begin with self-care and some internet courses we wanted to do a long time ago! Don’t sit 24/7 at Netflix and say that life is shit. It is not! As you said, it’s time to think about the past, our today, and the future! 🙂

Exactly Sandra Ans – there’s a lot of great opportunities available to us know that were not before!
