New Beginnings… And… Back to Normal?

This coming year is going to be full of gratitude for the small and big things of life for me.   And all about lessons learned from this crazy pandemic.  For in all its glory, it cannot be for naught.

With vaccines already being distributed I would like to think that by mid-year we will all be living close-to-normal lives again.  But will things ever truly be back to how they were?   Honestly, I hope not.  Here’s why.

New Beginnings

I realize now that I took so many of my freedoms for granted.  To go out to eat when I wanted, to run to the store when I needed to, and to shop for new clothes when my heart desired.   I accepted all this as what is just part of life.

Some may say that I should expect all these freedoms and more.  This past year though has taught me that nothing is guaranteed.  Not even being able to see my parents when I have wanted to.

I choose an attitude of gratitude for all this and more.  I am so excited to get each of these moments integrated back into my life.  Most of all, time with my friends!   I can’t wait to see them again and to gather without worry.

Lessons Learned

I would also like to think that this past year hasn’t just been for naught.  That we’ve all learned more about ourselves during this time and what we are fully capable of.

From the work perspective, I know that we’ve learned that we can now very successfully work from home.  Oh, how I hope this lesson sticks and that we can continue to work from home after the pandemic. It’s been so good for my health.

From a relationship perspective, I’ve realized how much face-to-face time means to maintaining strong, healthy relationships with my friends and loved ones.   That said, I’ve learned that we can evolve and adapt to keep these relationships strong despite the challenges something like a pandemic can throw at us.  But again, nothing replaces the value of a hug, a gentle touch…

And finally, from a life perspective, I’ve learned that while I can certainly adapt and thrive while isolating/quarantining, life is so much fuller when I can supplement everything and anything with the valuable relationships I have formed.   Nothing is not so much better when friends and loved ones are there to share experiences with.

How about You?

Will life go back to normal for you once this pandemic is over?  Will you look at things through a new lens?  Has the pandemic changed you in any way?

  1. I agree, I don’t think it will ever go back to what it was. We have all evolved so much during this pandemic. Whether its getting to know our neighbours more, or getting to know ourselves, that is something that will never refer back to what it was.

I’m ready for things to get back to normal, but it has affected it in some way. I feel like we will view normal through a different lens now too.

A different lens – a perfect way of putting it!

  3. I’m ready for things to go back to normal, but the pandemic really has changed the definition of normal for the foreseeable future so things will probably look very different either way. I agree with you on the work perspective – the switch to work from home is probably one of the few positive things about all of this. Thanks for sharing!

You are welcome Raji! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I don’t think life will be back to normal anytime soon. We just have to adjust to things however we can.

Lots of adjusting last year and this year. Hopefully we can find some good change out of it 🙂
