Dumbledore’s 6 Greatest Lessons

Emily Carter

Perhaps best of all, there’s a whole range of lessons that can be learnt from one character in particular; Albus Dumbledore. Every now and again, Dumbledore comes out with a saying that’s almost like a proverb; so much wisdom can be gained from them.

Harry Potter, in my not so humble opinion it’s the single greatest literary series of all time. You could say it’s the G.O.A.T of the fiction world. J.K Rowling really created a masterpiece! The magic of the stories is enchanting. The portrayal of the characters is lifelike. Every single aspect of the book makes you want to keep reading on. But, perhaps best of all, there’s a whole range of lessons that can be learnt from one character in particular; Albus Dumbledore. Every now and again, Dumbledore comes out with a saying that’s almost like a proverb; so much wisdom can be gained from them. Here’s Dumbledore’s 6 greatest lessons:

Words are, in my not so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of inflicting injury and remedying it

Words are powerful

In this single quote, J.K Rowling manages to teach us about just how powerful our words can be. Our words have the power to hurt and the power to heal. Things that we think are just a throw away comment in the moment, can cause a whole host of pain for the person it’s aimed at. A compliment can really make somebody’s day. Maybe we should all be thinking about the effects of our words before we decide to speak.

It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live

Dreams are good, but not if they distract you from the now

Having dreams really is not a bad thing. They give you a goal and keep you focused in where you’re headed. But, if your dreams distract you from the here and now then there’s a problem. Life is for living, and you can’t live it to the full when you’re always waiting for what’s to come. Enjoy what’s happening now. Embrace every single opportunity on the way to where you want to be.

It is important to fight and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay though never quite eradicated

Fight for what you believe in

The world is a messed up place. It’s not enough to fight for change just once. We all need to keep speaking up, keep fighting and keep advocating for change. We’ll never have a perfect world, but we can all do our bit to try and make it a much better place.

Soon we must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy

The right thing isn’t always easy

J.K Rowling quite accurately sums up one of the biggest choices that most of us face. Choosing between the right thing and the easy thing. The easy thing might seem like the most convenient path, but the right thing will always be the most worthwhile. Maybe it’s time we all made the hard decision to do the right thing rather than the easy thing.

We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.”

Unity is more powerful than divisivness

When we are all united, we can achieve so much more than when we are divided. There’s so much that to be said about the power of working together. As the old cliche saying goes, teamwork makes the dream work.

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light

Perspective Changes Everything

Perhaps the most famous quote from the Harry Potter series, this quote teaches us the importance of perspective. Even in the worst of situations, there’s something to be thankful for- even if it’s the fact that you have air in your lungs.

Is there any other lessons that you’ve learnt from the Harry Potter series? Or is there another series that you’ve found educational? If so, share it with me in the comments below.
