Another New School Year

New pencils, new pads of paper, and most of all new class syllabuses.  I remember every school year receiving those syllabuses and thinking, “how am I ever going to get this all done??”  And then I would head off to another class and get yet another list of reading materials and assignments for the semester or quarter.  Ugh….  So how do you get it all done and keep your wits about you?  And better yet, how do you sail through the semester with flying colors?

Pace Yourself

Like so much in life the key is to pace yourself.  Plug away at your coursework often and make sure to keep pace with each classes’ work.   But… be sure to give yourself breaks and recognize your accomplishments along the way.    This is just as important.  It not only gives you a proper sense of pride in your accomplishments but it motivates you to press forward to even more successes.

Don’t Procrastinate

Nobody likes to feel under pressure to complete a huge project in way too little time.   Don’t let this happen to you. If you find yourself with a huge course load, make sure to plug away at each course frequently, not neglecting some for the much better of others.

Also, break down the seemingly impossible big papers and tasks into smaller projects.  For example, break down reading assignments into daily chapters.  Break down papers into sections.  The more bite size you can make projects the less likely you will be tempted to procrastinate with them.

Remember… You Felt this Way Before

Every new endeavor, and that can be a new semester, seems to come with it a feeling of an overwhelming workload.  Remember the times you felt this way before and how you still came out with success after success.  You’ve been here before, you’ve succeeded and you will again.  Let your past successes spur you on and quell down those feelings of being overwhelmed.

Are you Ready for Your Next New ???

Are you ready for your next new endeavor? The new school year?  The next new project on your plate?  What strategies do you deploy to stay on track and keep a steady pace going?

  1. Ah the stress of being in school! I’m glad I’m done with those days. But now we have a kindergartener at home (doing e-learning) so between her, her younger sister, and their half baked sibling, we have 13+ years ahead of helping them!

Good luck to you Jennifer! I’m sure it will go wonderfully!

  2. I agree with procrastination. Sometimes I push my self too hard to complete one task at once. I try using time block and as you said, I also try to break down into sections – and so far it works the best for me 🙂

I’m glad you found some strategies that work for you Merry – that is wonderful!

  3. I was very much a procrastinator type of student throughout my education which I’ve somehow managed to curb in adulthood. Can definitely relate to the stress of letting it all pile up though.

Thanks for sharing these great tips!

  4. Ahh.. procrastination is something I really, really struggle with…

I do too at times… esp. if it’s an undesirable task!

  5. I have to say I’m glad I’m not at school although I may be starting a course soon on top of my full time job! I’m a really bad procrastinator but what works the best is doing a little everyday. Don’t cram if you can avoid it!

A steady pace is a great way to keep on track Amna! 🙂

  6. Another school year or work week, these strategies can be applied almost anywhere which is great. Proscratination is definitely best to be avoided unless you strive on deadline which most people don’t.

I can be terrible at procrastination if its a task I don’t want to do but I’m getting better at it. I think it’s a work in progress for many of us – but I agree, best avoided!

  7. I think pacing yourself is the best thing to do, today there’s this obsession with multi-tasking. But I personally feel better when I work on one thing at a time and dedicate my time to it properly.

While I do tend to still multi-task – I do do it less often as I keep hearing pacing and one task at a time is more productive. So I think your comments and strategies are spot on

  8. I’ve been feeling old for the past few years after graduating from college lol. It is so important to be on top of your schoolwork. That persistence sets you up for your future!
